Women out of the Margins

Join us for a whimsical week of reading, writing, and slow summer living at the Root&Rise Château in the French countryside. Women out of the Margins is a Read&Write retreat carefully curated for the literary heroine in all of us. 

Mornings unfold with books in the garden and soft conversation over your own hand-crafted herbal tea. Afternoons invite creativity, craft, and writing inspired by literary women who refused the margins – Jane Eyre, Jo March, Elizabeth Bennet, Celie, Janie Crawford, Ifemelu, and the many voices that followed them. Evenings glow with candlelit writing salons, shared meals, and waxing poetry over long Parisian picnics.

Guided by Emilie of Emilie’s Literary Corner and author coach Kirsten Rees, and hosted by Root&Rise, this experience blends the real lives of women in literature and sisterhood. You’ll write, reflect, and connect with your new favorite main characters on and off the page.

What To Expect:

5 Nights / 6 Days Accommodations

Rooms are shared in beautiful château rooms, or you can reserve a glamping tent —  for yourself for more privacy — or be paired with someone.

All Meals

Chef-prepared, locally sourced meals daily — breakfast through dinner.

Book club style discussions, writing workshops, artistic and French programming, and candlelit conversations & dance.

Regional wine tasting, long-table dinners, and countryside excursions.
